Anesthesia Workstation/Machines Overview

An anesthetic machine is a medical device used to generate a fresh gas flow of medical gases and inhalational anesthetic agents for the purpose of inducing and maintaining anesthesia. The older generation anesthesia machines were completely mechanical systems designed to meet the demands of anesthesia practice in the era of semi-open circuits and high fresh gas flow (FGF), and have a number of limitations and drawbacks. These devices have multiple exposed connection which were subject to misconnection or disconnection, obstructions or kinking. Also, small leaks might make the low flow anesthesia difficult, flow meters are inaccurate in their delivery of low flows. However, the modern integrated anesthesia workstation is designed to be a complete anesthesia and respiratory gas delivery and monitoring system. It has been combined with advanced ventilation features, gas delivery and agent vaporising with patient monitoring and information management to form an integrated anesthesia care station. These anesthesia workstations are equipped with a twin station manifold for mounting two selected type temperature compensated vaporizers with interlocking safety, an anti-hypoxic system, an in-built integrated ventilator with direct switching controls from the circle absorber system. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) by the year 2026, the demanding treatments will continuously result in the increasing demand for anesthesia machines.
