Diagnosis
Testing for Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is often unnecessary; if required, several types of laboratory tests are used for diagnosis. The most commonly used is the rapid diagnostic test that looks for RSV antigens in nasal secretions. If the rapid test is negative, the doctor may order a virus culture of the secretions.
