Immunohistochemistry is a method that involves identification of specific antigens within the tissues after using an antigen-specific antibody. Detection and visualization at microscopic levels can be performed via labelling the antibody with a substance which can be visualized, it can be done either with the help of conjugation to a fluorescent marker or the enzymes that can be followed by the method of colorimetric detection. It is a potential microscopy-based technique and can be used to visualize components such as proteins or other types of macromolecules in the tissue samples. The invention of the IHC technique was done in the 1940s. It is also used widely in the diagnosis of diseases by specific tumor markers which can easily aid in the determination of origin of tumor and the grade of tumor cells, in identification of the cell type and classification of the tumor.
