Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), also known as Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), is a minimally invasive surgery performed to insert a new valve without removing the damaged one. The narrowed aortic valve, which has failed to open properly (aortic valve stenosis), is replaced by a new one. Generally, a valve replacement requires an open-heart surgery with a sternotomy, where the chest is surgically opened for the procedure.
