Millions of people get bad side-effects when trying to withdraw antidepressants.

The All Party Parliamentary Group for Prescribed Drug Dependence review shows half of the patients have withdrawal symptoms and for half of these, the symptoms will be severe. The patients should be properly warned for the same. The review authors from the University of Roehampton and the University of East London suggest, about four million people in England may experience symptoms when coming off antidepressants, and about 1.8 million may experience these as severe. This might include – anxiety, sleep problems, hallucinations.

The NICE [National Institute for Clinical Excellence] guidelines flunk to recognize how not uncommon withdrawal is and incorrectly propose that it usually resolves within one week. Hence, this leads to misdiagnose withdrawal symptoms by many doctors that result in much unnecessary and destructive long-term prescribing.
